How the epoxy calculator works
Epoxy volume is pure geometry: length × width × thickness gives cubic inches, and one US gallon is 231 cubic inches. The calculator adds 10% for coating projects (edge drip loss) or 5% for pours, then splits the total by your mix ratio.

Tips for a clean pour
- For river tables, measure the actual void, not the whole table — trace the live edge onto cardboard and estimate the void as a percentage of the bounding rectangle.
- Mix ratio matters: measure by volume unless your brand specifies by weight — they are not interchangeable.
- Warm resin (75–85°F) flows and releases bubbles far better than cold resin.
- A propane torch or heat gun passed quickly over the surface pops surface bubbles within the first 15 minutes.
Frequently asked questions
How much epoxy do I need for a table top?
A standard flood coat is ⅛ inch thick, which takes about one gallon per 12 square feet. A 60" × 30" table (12.5 sq ft) needs roughly 1 gallon plus a seal coat.
How much does a gallon of epoxy cover?
At a ⅛" flood coat: about 12 sq ft. As a thin seal coat: 40–50 sq ft. For deep pours at 1" thick: only about 1.6 sq ft per gallon.
Can I pour deep epoxy in one go?
Only with dedicated deep-pour resin, which typically allows 2 inches per pour. Table-top epoxy poured deep overheats, yellows and can crack. Pour in layers if in doubt.
Why do I need extra epoxy beyond the exact volume?
Some resin always stays in the mixing cup, drips off the edges, or fills wood grain. Adding 5–10% avoids the disaster of running dry mid-pour.
